The Coral Reef Regeneration Project is deeply indebted to Sibyl Gallus-Price and Ruth Kulmala for their incredible support for this project. Ms. Price is teaching a year-long AP Literature course that has been endorsed by the College Board, and Dr. Kulmala is teaching AP Biology. Both courses are offered through the Home Schooling Gifted Students Friday Cooperative.
Both these AP courses emerged from planning for the Coral Reef Regeneration Project during the Summer 2012. In an effort to reach a broader homeschooling population, these courses were offered to the HSGS Coop for its Fall 2012 programming. These courses were the first AP level courses offered at an HSGS cooperative. The organizers of CR² are pleased that their efforts at organizing a project centered on coral reefs were able to have a broader educational impact on the HSGS homeschooling community at large.
Sibyl and Ruth were tireless in their encouragement and support of the development of the Coral Reef project. Most notably, Sibyl integrated Caribbean literature and perspectives into her course, creating a crucial window for CR² students to understand the culture and literary world of the Caribbean. Ruth was enthusiastically supportive of our efforts to expand the AP biology labs into the animal kingdom, and participated in the marine biology labs held at the Shedd Aquarium.
These two women allowed the students in the CR² project to expand and deepen their education and preparation for the Coral Reef Regeneration Project. We are very, very grateful for their help and support.
