On Sunday, September 7th, CR² team members Liam Schumm and Fiona Repp presented at the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh as part of the TEDxYouth@HotMetalBridge conference. This emerged from a CR² trip to the DR, data analysis efforts utilizing ReefCheck’s extensive online database, and even efforts to further local education in the DR. This lead to the development and presentation of several ideas for conservation, such as the establishment of coral nurseries, open databases, local education initiatives, and more. CR2 has worked on all of those things and incorporated a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) into their ReefCheck data collection process. CR²’s ReefCheck efforts have also been contributed to by local groups such as Coral Point Diving, El Carey, the community in La Caleta, and many others. A major point of the TED talk is that organizations, no matter how small or how large, no matter who it is comprised of, can conserve our amazing natural habitats and resources.

WelcomeWith Every Drop is a Chicago-based blog, published by CR² team members, that focuses on the biodiversity, ecology, and conservation of marine and freshwater ecosystems. “Even if you never have the chance to see or touch the ocean, the ocean touches you with every breath you take, every drop of water you drink, every bite you consume. Everyone, everywhere is inextricably connected to and utterly dependent upon the existence of the sea.” – Dr. Sylvia Earle Archives
