Labs at the Shedd Aquarium
Made possible by the Shedd's Melissa Williams, Jackie Formoso and Cheryl Mell in collaboration with Beth Beyer
From January through March of 2013, CR² participants learned more about the flora and fauna of coral reefs and prepared for research diving in the Dominican Republic through programs at the Shedd Aquarium. Students took part in labs that helped them better understand population dynamics within ocean ecosystems, how environmental forces and predation influence physiological adaptation, the pathology of reef fishes, and the ecology of Lake Michigan, among other subjects. In addition, students had the opportunity to connect with postdoctoral researchers working at the Shedd and will get a behind-the-scenes view of the Shedd's research and conservation efforts.
